Our Mission
The University Teaching Center provides programs and services to support and enhance instruction at the University of Arizona. Individual, departmental, and university-wide programs and services are designed to offer professional development opportunities to faculty, department heads, teaching assistants, and instructional support staff. Our unit suports classroom learning environments, promotes learner-centered teaching, and facilitates pedagogical exploration and reflection. We are committed to being accessible to the University community to promote and enhance the teaching/learning process in support of the University's mission to be the nation's top learner-centered research university. We collaborate with other instructional support and resource units on campus and reach out to other universities and colleges to cultivate faculty development partnerships that foster a community of learners. The University Teaching Center offers a wide variety of programs for faculty and TAs, including a New Faculty Orientation and Graduate Assistant Teacher Orientation, workshops and presentations, and individual consultations. Workshops can address a wide array of topics from lecturing strategies, to student diversity, to learning styles and more. Workshops that address particular departmental needs can be developed upon request. There are also opportunities for UA faculty through our grant funded programs such as the Learner-Centered Education Grant and the National Faculty Center Grant. |
