Choosing the Teaching Audition Option

The teaching audition is offered by the UTC with the understanding that there are many modes of learning and multiple means available to test skill and ability other than standardized tests.  Therefore, the teaching audition is designed as an option for nonnative speakers of English who are taking GRAD 697 D - College Teaching for ITAs.

What is a Teaching Audition?

The teaching audition is comprised of a 15-20 minute videotaped teaching demonstration by the graduate student in the area of the student's major.   A review panel of 5 people is selected to review the tape and provide assessment/evaluation of the audition.  Students are graded on a 60-point scale.  The assessment and evaluation committee are comprised of two members of the faculty from the student's department, two UA undergraduate students, and one professor from the University Teaching Center.

Criteria For the Evaluation of your Teaching Audition

The assessment and evaluation committee are given a check sheet that covers effective speech and discourse in the classroom as well as effective teaching practice.
