This program consists of a structured series of courses that provide foundational information and encourages development of skills necessary to teach effectively in higher education today. The program provides interested graduate students the preparation to become outstanding teachers. It is open to all graduate studets at the university. Former graduate students report that this certificate was a significant asset to them as they entered the job market. The vision and mission statement of The University of Arizona reflect a strong commitment to teaching excellence. The Graduate College and the University Teaching Center have designed a Certificate in College Teaching program, giving interested graduate students the preparation needed to become outstanding teachers.

  1. Complete and submit a program registration form.
  2. Take one course on college-level teaching from Category A (see Coursework below). You must complete a course from Category A before you will be allowed to register for GRAD 694a. There are no exceptions.
  3. Upon completion of a Category A course, take a second course from Category A or B.
  4. Complete the practicum (Category C). If you have already completed one course from Category A, you may
    enroll in GRAD 694a and other foundation or professional development courses simultaneously.
  5. Complete and submit the Request for Certificate Form.
