If you are interested in applying for a Teaching Assistantship (TA) appointment, please contact the Graduate Administrative Coordinator in your department for information about the application process.

International Teaching Assistants (ITAs) are an integral and vital part of the University of Arizona (UA). The University Teaching Center provides instructional support and cultural advice for present and future international teaching assistants. At the UTC, we value the cultural wealth international teaching assistants bring to the classroom. A list of resources is noted below in order to assist you in your cultural adjustment to the university, classroom, and community. Thus, we encourage you to utilize the services as they are provided by the UA on your behalf.

SPEAK / TSE Tests

The University Teaching Center assists the Graduate College and the Departments in screening the oral language proficiency of non-native speakers of English who are applying for Teaching Assistantships. International graduate students are required by the Board of Regents to take the SPEAK Test or the TSE Test to be eligible for a Teaching Assitantship position at the University of Arizona. Applicants must have a permission slip filled out by their Department and register online to take the test on one of the available dates. The fee for the SPEAK test is $60.
